I don't understand the mentality some people have that this site turns any good artists away intentionally. There's no rule against uploading anything. We all have personal tastes. I, for one, dislike the anime spammage of DA, but that's why there are filters here should I choose to use them. Fan art does not equal anime. And anime doesn't necessarily equate to bad art. There are plenty of terrible pieces (furries) that outdo whatever dislike I have toward the usual anime. And there are also great so-called "anime" styles that are combined with real talent. I think it's just that a lot of people fall back to using an anime style in order to spew quantity over quality. It's not the cause, it's the result. DA has turned into a big photobucket where "art" ranges from oil masterpieces which have had countless hours of work invested into them, to manipulated New Moon posters. The problem there is that the real stuff actually needs to be viewed to be recognized. That's hard when there are 60 different sub-divisions of categories. You have to know just where to look unless you want to sift through an ever-expanding sea of... well, manipulated New Moon posters. DA is obviously more popular. There are a lot more members. Unfortunately, this means more uploads. And despite all the people, a piece of artwork might get less than 10 views in a month due to the constant uploading. Compare this to vinovas where there are much fewer members and uploads. We may not get professional input or "faves" requests, but at least a higher percentage of the users actually view the submissions. Ideally somewhere in-between this site and DA is where it would be better.
