Nintendo's Next Generation Controller Just Revealed!
Sometimes looking at the controller reminds me of this VG Cats comic... XD

I couldn't tell you if that TV at the end of the trailer is an HDTV or not, I can't tell the differance. I'd say a majority of people have normal TVs though, plasmas and hdtv's aren't so common yet that you have to make something to work with them.
Quite frankly I adore my Wii! I love the innovation of the system, and give mad props to Nintendo for raising the bar once again. Apparently Sony has been working on a controller similar to the wii-mote, in a bit of a rip-off style, if that says anything about Nintendo and their ground-breaking ideas!

I've jsut had a look at these earlier. And I'm very excited. The only thing that concerns me is that it looks like people are using them almost like light guns. ie the motion of the controller affects what's on the screen. I have a plasma screen tv, so this may not work with my tv. We'll see, cause they sure do look fantastic.blue_halo on September 15th, 2005 at 8:04:25 PM
I love the idea of swinging swords and playing FPS with this thing. It'd be almost like holding the weapon in your hand. I'm just not sure if it will catch on. But even then, I'm sure you could use a Cube controller for standard games. It'll be interesting when they reveal the system completely on the 19th.Scoria on September 15th, 2005 at 9:15:11 PM
When it's compared to the new human interface offerings from Microsoft and Sony, this is indeed a revolutionary product.Brian on September 15th, 2005 at 9:35:44 PM
I was pleasantly surprised to see that the controller wasn't an utter abomination. I expected so much worse, but after seeing it, I can't wait to try it out.Kostika on September 16th, 2005 at 3:02:08 AM
It looks like the controllers will use light gun tech. So HDTV and plasma screens won't work with it. This is a bit of a disappointment for me as I was well and truly looking forward to the Revolution.spikeyone on September 16th, 2005 at 5:10:45 AM
It has been confirmed that Nintendo will also be producing a "classic-style" controller, so fear not~!Lost on September 16th, 2005 at 12:20:57 PM
I like how Nintendo is still coming up with clever new ideas of playing a game. Like this and the DS. It's to bad most of the market is still in traditional style games. Which is great and all, but sometimes I feel like I could use some change.Kostika on September 16th, 2005 at 1:49:12 PM
Yea but half the fun will be lost from what I've seen of the new controller. I wanna swing my controller around like a sword and zap things like a gun.Miguel on September 17th, 2005 at 12:33:34 AM
I can think of tons of ways this could be implemented, but I'm still skeptical to see if Nintendo will be able to have anything more than niche games because of the controller, if it is the "standard" controller. I'd love it for sports games though, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Mario Baseball. Playing as Link would rock, Sword, Boomerang....:O!!! HOOKSHOT!Sandcastle on September 24th, 2005 at 11:05:26 AM
The weapon-simulating capability of the controller is really cool. It'll be interesting to see what titles can utilize this controller to its most creative.Sometimes looking at the controller reminds me of this VG Cats comic... XD

Kostika: IGN's article about the controller said it would work regardless of the TV type, as it uses Bluetooth. I don't think Nintendo would make something not work with HDTV, which is effectively the future. Heck, look at the end of the movie demonstrating the controller; it's an HDTV, is it not?Kostika on September 26th, 2005 at 1:23:14 AM
Bluetooth won't detect movement. Unless they've created something new it'll need to use something similiar to light gun technology we have now, which doesn't work with HDTV or plasma screens.I couldn't tell you if that TV at the end of the trailer is an HDTV or not, I can't tell the differance. I'd say a majority of people have normal TVs though, plasmas and hdtv's aren't so common yet that you have to make something to work with them.

yea, a little too nuts for me. I like to keep it simple, something nintendo hasn't done in thier last two systems and apparently don't plan on doing so. X-box is just the way to go for me. They've already revolutionized the online community concept, something my ex, the PS-2 has yet to do, and the GC never even got online. I see thier unfortunate demise in the console era soon unless they pull something out of nowhere.themollusk on September 7th, 2008 at 8:17:07 AM
It's funny to look back at the concept images of the "Revolution" controller. It's so wee (no pun intended) compared to the actual production controller. Has anyone's opinion changed from the "I want a regular controller" idea to something else? I love my Wii, even if it doesn't have a real fuckin' serious graphics engine, it's always fun to play with lots of friends over, and the feature to plug in Gamecube controllers is a great idea. I play Super Smash Bros. BRAWL with the classic controller, for example, as fighting games I prefer to mash buttons rather than flail about >w<Quite frankly I adore my Wii! I think it is a very interesting move for Nintendo. I'm sure some may laugh at it at first, but when the reality settles down on you, you'll be awed.
