Corel Painter

Does anyone use Corel. It's a good program. I been using it on and off for a few years now. I'm self taught so some stuff might be off. Check out the artwork.

I downloaded the trial at the beginning of the year and dabbled in it. Then schoolwork picked up and it went to waste. I loved the brush interactions and overall feel of it but it's just similar enough to Photoshop where the differences become difficult to adapt to. You don't pilot a jet with the same mentality used to ride a bike. But digital painting is digital painting and it's hard to divide that thought process when switching back and forth between programs. But there could have been something I was missing that made it customizable to feel more like my CS3 setup. I should still buy it eventually. Feels wrong not to have it.

I had a trial version of Photoshop but I went to Corel Painter first. I might check out to see if it's similar/different from the two. I'm kinda getting tired of using the mouse sometimes. Need to save up to buy a pen and pad.

You definitely should. There's a world of difference between the mouse and tablet. Once you get one you'll wonder why you didn't save up sooner. It feels weird at first (used to turning my sketchpad in my lap, which you can't exactly do with a tablet/monitor) but there's much more potential to grow and get better in general once you switch over.

I tried Photoshop and I think it's cool. I saw a few videos of people using it and it's pretty awesome. I made a few people using techniques I saw on the program. Really easy to use and go, maybe more than Corel. Really need a pen and tablet, though..
