Description:
Some of the initial inspiration was drawn from the fur trade industry and the study into animal cruelty carried out during 2006 to 2007 as the final project of the Foundation year before entering the BA Hons Degree in September 2007. As part of the research for this designer fashion makers were researched and famous figures representing the fur trade can be seen represented in this body of art work representing Huntress figures. The intention for this project on animal cruelty was to explore the danger to animals and human involvement in this in terms of fashion industry and poaching. Initially Helen experiments on a small scale and then work on a large scale. The animals used to portray this will be ones that communicate her thoughts best, paying particular attention to elephants, tigers, wallabies and ocelots. The project in a way does connect to what the artist believes in as I think there is no need to use animals or exploit animals in any means as we are not hunters anymore.
Helen Ingram will communicate imagery that represents poaching and the fashion industry clearly and the truth and thoughts of where it comes from and how cruelty to animals is wrong. The imagery that is created is recognisable but at the sometime abstract that gives a strong message. The work isn't propaganda on the adverts and graphical forms of animal cruelty but more the viewer searching for the meaning and interpreting the compositions themselves. This body of work was influenced my Japanese, Chinese, Elizabeth Frink, Henri Rousseau, Chris Ofili and calligraphy. The development stages to which the work shall be taken through is from photographs taken from zoos and through a variety of two dimensional media
